Amadou Vamoulké
Jailed arbitrarily since July 29, 2016, Cameroonian journalist Amadou Vamoulké, is being prosecuted on a charge of “misusing” nearly 6 million euros in public funds, not for his personal benefit, but for the sole benefit of CRTV, the public television channel he ran from 2005 to 2016. These charges have never been established since the start of his trial despite more than 73 hearings as of July 2, 2021, and contradict the journalist’s reputation of integrity and professionalism. Amadou Vamoulké is a leading figure of Cameroonian journalists. He has been imprisoned for 5 years while suffering from a "severe" neurological impairment requiring appropriate medical care, which is not available in Yaoundé. In addition, in March 2021 at least two cases of coronavirus were detected in the cell he is currently being held in with seven other people at Yaoundé central prison.
