Omar Al-Kiswani is a student and elected president of the student council at Birzeit University. He was arrested by undercover Israeli soldiers in March 2018 on the university campus, following a previous arrest in 2015 on charges relating to his affiliation with the Islamic bloc, an organization deemed illegal under Israeli military orders. During his most recent arrest, Omar was beaten and tortured during interrogation. Israeli Occupation Forces pressured Omar by arresting his mother and interrogating her one week after his own arrest, leading him to confess to the charges against him. Omar launched a hunger strike lasting 13 days to protest his living conditions in Ofer prison. He has subsequently been charged and sentenced to 50 months imprisonment with a Shekel 55000 fine.
